Okay. So my last post introduced you to Mr. Squirrel.
I enjoyed him, but my turkeys were not amused. You’re probably wondering how I could tell. Just take a look at this:
As you can see, they turned their backs on me and wouldn’t speak for a while.
They lobbied for equal time–you know, that discrimination thing.
Hmf! What are you going to do!
When I finally agreed to equal time for equal performance, I asked what they thought they could teach me. Maybe it was the fact that I was still in my robe at noon or that my hair wasn’t combed or that I was sitting outside in 107 degrees temperature that tipped them off. I don’t know, but whatever it was, they saw I am having a struggle with taking care of myself. Being the brain-iacs they are, they immediately gobbled, “Self Care.”
“Okay,” I answered. I could use a little help in that area right now.
Here is what they said:
Take a bath when you first get up in the morning.
Dress in your finest clothes.
Take care during breakfast not to sit in your cereal bowl!
Catch up on the daily news and gossip.
Spend quality time with your flock every day.
When you get tired, go to bed!
As you can see, they had plenty to say about the subject of self-care.
Wonder what they would say about Thanksgiving dinner!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful “turkey truths.” I’m glad that you have such inspiration right in your yard! Take care, and know you are being prayed for with love and that your messages are being shared and valued by many…
Thanks Sandi! Your yard holds inspiration, too. Wish the whole world could see it. 🙂 I appreciate the prayers and appreciate that you share my blog posts. I saw a demonstration on alcohol ink by Denise Kerr. I love it! Can’t wait to try.
All you go through, yet you are so delightfully enchanting! You are such a gift to all of us. Thank you!! We love you!
Ooh, Colleen, how nice to hear from you. Delightfully enchanting! Thank you for your love and support. I see your art work once in a while hanging in the gallery. What a treat!
I always love your posts. Thanks for brightening my day!
Hi Jeannie, I’m so happy they bring a little brightness to your day! They bring some to mine, too. What is it about humans that they want to create–no matter what their condition. I don’t know, but I do enjoy creating.
Hi Gayle,
I love turkeys! We have a flock of them every year in our yard. The babies are the cutest thing 🙂 A few years ago before one of my old cats passed away she would go out ( with supervision ) and just lay in the yard. The turkeys seemed to welcome her in to their little flock. They would encircle her and just hang out with her. No one could ever believe it when I told them. I look back on the pictures of her with those turkeys and it always makes me smile. Keep enjoying all that nature all around you and I can’t wait to see what animal teacher you have next! 🙂 Love and Hugs to you and Michael!!! P.S. The photos are awesome!
Thanks for your kind words, as always, Amy. And thank you for sharing my link on facebook. I’m not sure which other animal might consent to grace of the pages of The Sweet Life, but the animal I seem to learn most from is Mike. 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying some of that gorgeous New York nature today.
We have a lot of these in my neighborhood too. There is one Mama with three little ones who visits regularly. Two follow her in a nice line, the third is always somewhere else, and trying to catch up. They love the wild berries. I had a bunch of girls tromp through in the rain, then, as soon as the sun came up, they used my woods as a spa – flapping and sunning, eating, and grooming each other. Relaxing cuts across all species!
I love to get your wisdom.

Hi Jayne, I can picture your turkeys, especially the little one who is always out of his own little adventure. Sounds like a children’s book to me. Maybe art isn’t your only strength. Have you ever thought about writing? That’s my wisdom especially for you!
Loved Mr. Squirrel and the Turkeys…In the last week I had 2 different experiences with baby bears out seemingly by themselves, running across roads and then up into a tree! The only message that seems to be is “Have fun! & take risks?” …or maybe, “No mother can keep up with her children!” Thanks for your outreach to make us smile. Love YOU, back.
Hi Sandra. So far, a bear has not journeyed through our yard–at least as far as I know. They would make for interesting conversation, though, wouldn’t they! I’m very happy to put a smile on your face. I still have the image of your exquisite artwork in my mind. Hope you are doing more. Thanks for dropping in.
Oh I love your pictures and narratives. You have such a special gift to lift up everyone else. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Jan. How lovely to have you pop in! Thank you for your appreciation. It’s readers like you who make my efforts a gift of love. I’m still cuddling up in my beautiful quilt. Now, that’s a gift!
Wrote comment…it disappeared. Wasn’t sure if “no comment” was for your fans. So if it returns from cyberspace, I’ll resend. Love and Admiration. CUZ
Okay. I’ll sit out on the front porch with my butterfly net and wait for it to float by!
I love you Gayle! Thanks so much for the Turkey talk! There’s so much to learn from our feathered friends!
Yep. They’re not the bird brains some of us think they are! Hope you’re well and happy. Love to you and Bill.
That was great! We have them in the Greenbelt behind our home.
You could probably take an early morning or evening walk and spot them roosting in the trees. They are like clowns when it’s bedtime!
Outstanding turkeys, Gayle! I always wanted a pet turkey, but then I have always wanted “pet everythings” and always got (and still have) teachers, companions and yes, those who have a lot to say. Not that I always get the message. I would guess the turkey flock is also saying, “Gayle, we’re here for you!” Just as I and everyone who knows you, are – those turkeys, attitude aside, love you, too.
You live such a great life with all of your animal companions. I have been having such a craving for horses lately. There are a couple of them who live down the street, but haven’t been able to take them an apple and caress their velvet muzzles. But, like you, I would be happy to pet everything!
Now Terry, we all knows it takes a turkey to know a turkey. Ha Ha Thanks for your sweet words. It brings tears to my eyes when someone is inspired by the simple little words that come out of my fingers onto this laptop! Life doesn’t get better than that. Bless you, Terry.
Dearest Gayle your pictures, words, love, inspiration in so many forms! You keep on giving and giving to all of us. The love generated and shared here is great and rippling out on so, so many levels. Your gifts of love to all of us remind me of the vibrations that the flutter of butterfly wings send out to the ends of the universe! Your inspirations are like you are pitching a large stone into a great pond…endlessly giving. I have especially loved the turkey’s wisdom and the photos are fabulous! Gratitude and great love to you and Mike! Pam
Hi Pam, My, such flowery words of love. Bring ’em on! 🙂 I’m happy you’re enjoying my joy. It’s a great thing to share, as you know. Our love to you, too.
Oh how I love turkey talk! So cute, and informative. You may still be in your robe at noon, but your creative brain never sleeps. Love to you and your feathered guests. 🙂
Hi Canda, cute comment. 🙂 As far as this brain that never sleeps, that’s a subject for a new blog post–oh, what I could say about sleepless nights. Thanks for your lightheartedness and support.
