The Many Faces of Mt. Shasta

One day I sat and watched a mountain.

At dawn it was rose-colored.

Mid-morning found a sky-blue cake tipped with frosting.

Noon made it appear harsh.

Mid-afternoon painted long shadows across its face.

Twilight cast a magical haze hinting purple.

Nightfall found it velvet black.

It was the same mountain all day long.

I am that mountain.

My surface changes with the elements.

But I am the same.

“I am that mountain. My surface changes with the elements. But I am the same.”

Beautiful words that so perfectly describe how our core self remains the same despite those experiences that color and shape the self we show to the world.
